Hero Week- September 7th – September 12th

For the past decade, CrossFit Massillon has dedicated two special holidays to Honor our Military, First Responders, Police and Fire;

Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

In addition to Memorial Day and Veterans Day, we also prepare for a full week of training in Rememberance of our Fallen Soldiers.

During the week of 9/11, our clients and athletes will learn about Hero’s they never met, share stories about 9/11 and rejoice about family members who are Honored yet Never Forgotten.

All of these Hero’s that are chosen each year have a dedicated WOD (workout of the day) that will be completed in their honor.

This year’s Chosen Hero’s are as follows:

The “Seven”

A suicide bomber killed seven CIA officers and one Jordanian officer at a remote base in southeastern Afghanistan on December 30, 2009 after posing as a potential informant reporting on Al Qaeda. Seven new stars will be etched onto the memorial wall at the CIA where every star represents grieving friends, family and colleagues dedicated to fight against the enemy, forever in their name.

Killed in the attack were CIA officers: Jennifer Lynne Matthews, 45; Scott Michael Roberson, 39; Harold E. Brown Jr., 37; Darren LaBonte, 35; Elizabeth Hanson, 30; and security contractors Jeremy Jason Wise, 35, and Dane Clark Paresi, 46.

Seven rounds of:

7 Handstand Push-ups
7 Thrusters 135 pound
7 Knees to Elbows
7 Deadlifts 245 pound
7 Burpees
7 Kettlebell Swings
7 Pull-ups

In honor of Navy Chief Petty Officer Mark “Badger” Carter, 27, of Virginia Beach, VA who was killed in Iraq 11 December 2007.

3 rounds:

30 Pull-ups
Run 800 meters

On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Often referred to as 9/11, the attacks resulted in extensive death and destruction, triggering major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism and defining the presidency of George W. Bush. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters.

In rememberance of this tragedy, CrossFit Massillon created this WOD in memory of all the families affected by this selfish act of terrorism.
